Remember what it feels like to be present.

Four hours with horses, just for your group. Learn real ground work, groom and lead a horse, then run barrels, poles and keyhole on foot against your own clock. No experience needed, and no riding. Built first for anyone who has loved someone through addiction — and open to any small group that wants to put the phone down and be here.

  1. Focus

Your breath. Your thoughts. Nothing else fits in a round pen.

  2. Execute

Set a plan and try it — the horse tells you, honestly, if it worked.

  3. Adjust

Try again, and again. No lecture, no judgment.

  4. Celebrate

Achieve it, and celebrate — with yourself, and the horse.

Built first for people who have loved someone through addiction.

Like so many people, you may have loved someone through addiction — a partner, a child, a parent, a friend. You know what it is to be hypervigilant, to manage, to hold steady while someone else falls apart and tries to put themselves back together. A horse doesn't know any of that. It only asks what you're doing right now — and for an afternoon, that is where the weight gets set down.

This isn't about the person you love. It's a few hours built entirely around you — remembering what it feels like to be fully present, for yourself, maybe for the first time in a long while.

How the day works

Ground work with horses first. Then you run the pattern.

Ground Work

Basics, safety, grooming

Before anything else, you learn to be around a horse safely and well: safe approach, reading horse behavior, personal space, grooming, haltering, leading, stopping, turning, backing, and the basics of pressure and release. No horse experience required — this is where it starts for everyone.

Lesson on Pace

Keyhole, poles, barrels

Once you're comfortable on the ground, you learn and run the same patterns used in a riding club — keyhole, poles, and barrels — on foot, leading your horse. Set a first run, adjust, then run again. The only competitor is you, and the clock shows the difference.

This isn’t a support group, and the horse isn’t a metaphor for what you’re carrying.

Self Reunion is intentionally fun first and meaningful underneath. You learn legitimate horse-handling skills and complete real patterns. The value comes from being fully present — maybe for the first time in a while — stepping into something unfamiliar, and being met, honestly, by an animal that has no idea what's happening at home.

Who runs it

Sidney Bruce, and two horses who have seen it all.

Sidney founded Self Reunion. She grew up riding, still rides with her club, The Wild Ones, and has spent more than a decade in human resources doing the conversations nobody wants to have. She teaches the ground work herself, runs the clock, and listens if you want to talk. She is not a therapist and will not act like one.

  • Tig21, brown mare. Lifelong ranch and trail horse. Mothers everything on the place, and will look after you too.
