The experience

What is Self Reunion?

A private, approximately four-hour horse experience near Ogden, Utah. You learn ground work — safe approach, grooming, haltering, leading, pressure and release — then run barrels, poles and keyhole on foot with your horse, with a first and final run on the clock.

Do I need horse experience?

No. Self Reunion is designed for adults with no horse experience. You learn safe approach, grooming, haltering, leading, stopping, turning, backing, and basic pressure and release from the ground up.

Will I be riding?

No. The experience is entirely ground-based. You work with the horse on foot, including the riding-club patterns: keyhole, poles, and barrels. Why we start on the ground.

I'm nervous around horses. Is this for me?

Yes. Everything starts with how to approach a horse safely and read what it's telling you, and you move at your own pace.

How physical is it?

You'll be on your feet for most of the four hours, walking and sometimes jogging on arena footing beside your horse. If you have mobility limits or health concerns, tell us when you book and we'll talk through what works.

Is this therapy or a support group?

No. Self Reunion is not equine-assisted therapy, riding lessons, or a support group, and it isn't a substitute for any of them. It is fun first and meaningful underneath: you learn legitimate ground-work and horsemanship skills, run real riding-club patterns, and leave having been fully present for a few hours.

Who runs the sessions?

Sidney Bruce, the founder. She grew up riding, is a member of The Wild Ones riding club, and teaches the ground work and patterns herself. She is also an HR consultant and facilitator by trade, not a therapist. Meet Sidney.

Which horses will I work with?

Hank, a 22-year-old retired dressage gelding who reads the smallest signal, or Tig, a 21-year-old ranch and trail mare who is patient with nervous first-timers. Meet Hank and Tig.

What do I take home?

Practical horsemanship skills and a Self Reunion Event Timesheet showing your first and final arena runs — plus the memory of what it felt like to focus on nothing but yourself for an afternoon.

Who it's for

Who is Self Reunion for?

It was built first for anyone who has loved someone through addiction — partners, parents, adult children, siblings and close friends. It's also open to friends, adult families and small teams who want a private day with horses. For families · For groups.

Do I have to talk about addiction or my family?

No. Nobody will ask about the person in your life, and there is no group share. The day is about you.

Is there a minimum age?

Self Reunion is for adults 18 and over.

Can we bring a larger group?

Each session is capped at six so that everyone gets real time with a horse. For a larger group, ask us about booking back-to-back sessions.
